THE CARRIAGE HOME
TEXAS CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY COMMERCIAL INTERIOR DESIGN PROJECT
The Carriage Home, located in Fort Worth, Texas, is one of the last remaining carriage homes originally designed to house both cars and horses. Now owned by Cook Children’s Hospital, the space was transformed with the support of TCU Interior Design students. Historically, Elizabeth and Windfield Scott, the home’s second owners, later converted it into the Girls Service League, providing housing for underprivileged girls.
In honor of the home’s community legacy, the project reimagines the space as a relief home for families with children receiving care at the hospital. The stables were transformed into private lounge rooms to preserve the historic structure while creating functional spaces. The concept, Safe Haven, provides families with a safe, welcoming space close to the hospital, featuring a kitchen for home-cooked meals, relaxing lounges, bathrooms for refreshment, and private rooms for quiet conversations—offering comfort, support, and a sense of home during challenging times.
