GREENTREE ELEMENTARY

TEXAS CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY SENIOR THESIS

For my senior thesis, I transformed Greentree Elementary, my childhood elementary school, into an interactive and flexible learning environment that encourages exploration, collaboration, and engagement. The design investigates how interior spaces impact a child’s learning and addresses the limitations of traditional school design practices, which often rely on lecture halls, rigid classrooms, and minimal opportunities for interactive learning.

The project integrates the five domains of learning, cognitive, physical, communicative, emotional, and adaptive, into the layout and functionality of the school. Classrooms, corridors, and common areas are reconfigured to support movement, hands-on learning, and student-driven exploration. Flexible spaces allow students to transition between independent work, group activities, and creative projects, creating an environment that adapts to diverse learning styles while promoting curiosity, growth, and engagement at every level.

Architectural lighting was carefully designed throughout the school to enhance mood, support focus, and highlight interactive and flexible learning areas, reinforcing the educational and emotional goals of the space.
