THE MATCHBOX

TEXAS CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY COMMERCIAL INTERIOR AND LIGHTING DESIGN

The Matchbox is a collaborative competition project hosted by Acradis Design Group. Each designer was assigned a space to transform into a speakeasy, developing their own storefront and concept. Each interior designer worked alongside a graphic designer to develop the storefront graphics.

This project reimagines the space as a luxurious cinnamon candy shop that transitions into an industrial, elegant speakeasy. The overarching concept of fire informs both the candy shop and speakeasy, alluding to the project’s name. Fire embodies contrast—providing light, warmth, and visibility, while also carrying mystery and danger. Throughout the space, design elements explore this balance of light and darkness, creating an environment that is at once inviting, intriguing, and visually dynamic.

Custom millwork was incorporated into the candy shop with a floating curved shelf featuring a hollow center, designed specifically to display the cinnamon candies.
